A protestor wears Syria, Libya, Yemen and Palestinia's colours during a demonstration in Sanaa, Yemen :  here (facebook link) Unrest As I wrote before, syrian families don't know anymore what to do : send their children to school, not knowing wether they're safe or not, or keeping them home and maybe having to pay 1'000 dollars. More than that, the authorities can take the name of the students who don't go to school and list them as activists, which means they can be arrested anytime. And the worst is women are not safe anymore, if they're seen walking in the streets alone, the chabbiha or the security forces may kidnap them and rape them, as they do to the activists' sisters. As they've done to Zaynab Al Hosni. See  here  an article about the students' demonstrations. New slogans : "The people want the excecution of the president" and "No school until the regime falls" Ali Farzat Ali Farzat is a famous syrian cartoonist who got kidnapped and badly beaten about a month ago. Beside other damage, his hands got broken, in order to prevent him from publishing more politicaly engaged drawings. Video of his work here , his website here (got hacked few hours ago). Military intervention Some people are again talking of a military intervention in Syria. It still isn't a good idea and would without any doubt turn badly. What people can do is send back ambassadors, stop any trading with Syria (oil, Aleppo's soap,...) and try again to send journalists there to tell about what's happening ; besides, the UNO should send observators in Syria, impose sanctions and bring the syrian government before the criminal court. The problem of school Last Sunday, school started again in Syria. Half of the children didn't go and some of them demonstrated instead. A rumour says that the government has announced that each person who doesn't go to school would have to pay a thousand dollars. Most of them don't have this sum, but the main problem is that some schools got fired. What can people do, then ? Students demonstrated in Kanaker , Houran (Daraa) , Ma'r Shawreen  and Ma'ret Mesrin in Idlib  and Hama today. In Homs , the security forces opened fire on the kids' protest and in Damascus they surrounded schools. Vengeance on family Kidnapping and vengeance on family member has become common in Syria (french article about it below). Some months ago, a pianist has played a song for Syria in front of the White House ; his family paid, as we can see here with the pictures of his parents. Assessment after six months of killing After more than six months of conflict right now, human associations say about 2'700 people have been killed. Let's remind ourselves that these 2'700 are only the ones whose death has been official, many more have simply disappeared and some others just died without anyone being able to report it officially. Accounts on the last few days here and here . English What will the UNO do now ? With Russia encouraging dialogue between the government and the opposition (it already happened last week, and it was a dialogue between president Assad and his own people, and not the opposition) it becomes hard for the UN Council to make decisions on which everyone agrees.
