There was a UN General Assembly meeting on June 7th 2012, the Arab League and the opposition both pleading for the full application of the Annan plan under the UN Chart Chapter 7, but not aiming for the same thing. The opposition wants any kind of help, but the Security Council and the Arab League are against any military intervention. And yesterday, on June 16th, the monitors decided to suspend their mission but to stay in Syria anyway. Now the question is : what is going to happen ? According to Laurent Fabius, Russia wants at least a part of the regime to stay in place in order to defend its own interests, but the opposition will never agree on this after all these slaughters and all its losses. Lavrov denied it and said Russia was ready to let Assad go only if that's what Syrians want. The thing is that by "what Syrians want", he means he needs a dialogue between the opposition and the Assad regime to let Assad go. And this is exactly what Assad wants. So far apparently the best way to support the opposition and the Free Syrian Army would be to give them money and weaponry so that they can finally succeed by themselbes. Because the fact that Russia keeps on sending weaponry and now helicopters won't make things easier. Gulf countries tried to offer contracts to Russia so that it would let go of Syria. At the same meeting, Switzerland, Australia and other countries asked for the Syrian file to be transfered to the International Criminal Court so that there can be an inquiry and then a condemnation of the ones responsible of the slaughters.
Otherwise the Syrian National Council has finally chosen a new president on June 10th : Abdulbasset Sida. And Amnesty International released a new report about the situation in Syria on June 15h ; you can find it below with other links.
Homs has been shelled and bombed very strongly for weeks now, but yesterday, June 16th, pro-regime forces surrounded the city and until now it is still under siege ; people are very afraid of a military operation. Burhan Ghalioun called for international help and for peacekeepers to go there. People didn't have any access to water for some days, but then the army bombed an aqueduct and water flooded the streets, and people could finally drink.
And just so you know, Father Paolo has been sent out of Syria because he was using his freedom of speech right.
I'd like to share part of a testimony that french-speaking people will find at the bottom of the article ; the man who is speaking was part of the army before defecting. "I only saw their silhouettes in the harbour : yound people, men and women, surrounded by moukhabarat. Then we loaded a container [with these people]. We dropped the container in the sea.

Français : Il y a eu un meeting de l'Assemblée Générale de l'ONU le 7 juin 2012, la Ligue Arabe et l'opposition demandant toutes deux l'application complète de plan Annan selon le chapitre 7 de la Charte de l'ONU, mais ne visant pas le même résultat. L'opposition veut de l'aide quelle qu'elle soit, mais le Conseil de Sécurité et la Ligue Arabe sont contre toute intervention militaire. Et hier, le 16 juin, les observateurs ont annoncé qu'ils suspendaient leur mission, mais restaient tout de même en Syrie. Maintenant la question est : que va-t-il se passer ? Selon Laurent Fabius, la Russie souhaiterait qu'au moins une partie du régime reste en place afin de défendre ses propres intérêts, mais l'opposition n'acceptera jamais ça après tous ces massacres et ces pertes. Lavrov a nié et a dit que la Russie était prête à laisser partir Assad si c'était ce que les Syriens voulaient. Le problème est que, par "ce que les Syriens veulent", il veut dire qu'il a besoin d'un dialogue entre l'opposition et le régime Al-Baath pour laisser Assad partir. Et c'est exactement ce qu'Assad veut. Jusque là, le meilleur moyen de soutenir l'opposition et l'Armée Syrienne Libre serait de leur donner de l'argent et de l'armement afin qu'ils réussissent finalement à faire tomber le régime par eux-même. Parce que le fait que la Russie continue à envoyer de l'armement et à présent des hélicoptères ne va pas rendre les choses plus simples. Les pays du Golf ont essayé d'offrir des contrats à la Russie pour qu'elle laisse tomber la Syrie. Au même meeting, la Suisse, l'Australie et d'autres pays ont demandé que le dossier syrien soit transféré à la Cour Pénale Internationale afin qu'ils enquêtent et condament les responsables des massacres.
Sinon, le Conseil National Syrien a finalement choisi un nouveau présent le 10 juin : Abdulbasset Saida. Et Amnesty International a publié un nouveau rapport sur la situation en Syrie le 15 juin ; vous pouvez le trouver juste au-dessus en anglais, avec d'autres liens.
Homs a été fortement bombardée pendant plusieurs semaines, mais hier, le 16 juin, des forces pro-régime ont encerclé la ville, qui est encore assiégée à présent ; la population a peur d'une opération militaire. Burhan Ghalioun a appelé la communauté internationale à l'aide, demandant que des guardes de paix s'y rendent. La population n'avait plus accès à l'eau pendant plusieurs jours, puis l'armée a bombardé un aqueduc, et l'eau a inondé les rues, permettant finalement aux gens de boire.
Et juste pour que vous le sachiez, le père Paolo a été expulsé de Syrie pour avoir exercé son droit à la liberté d'expression.

Rape of men, women and children - Viol des hommes, des femmes et des enfants
Part of the torture used in prison against men as well as women is raping. The shame that never leaves you after such an event is magnified by the fact that, in arabic countries, this kind of event if "taboo". Last summer, the security forces started kidnapping and raping sisters, mothers and daughters of activists. But things kept getting worse, and now this can happen even to young children. And psychological support is as hard to find as medical aid...

Français : Une partie de la torture appliquée en prison contre les hommes aussi bien que contre les femmes est le viol. La honte qui ne vous quitte jamais après un tel événement est magnifiée par le fait que, dans les pays arabes, ce genre d'événement est "tabou". L'été passé, les forces de sécurité ont commencé à enlever et violer les soeurs, les mères et les filles des activistes. Mais les choses ont continué à empirer, et maintenant cela arrive également aux jeunes enfants. Et le soutien psychologique est aussi difficile à trouver que l'aide médicale...

Al-Qubeir, Al-Haffeh & Hammouriyeh
After the massacre that happened in Al-Houla, we all thought the international community would strongly react, but nothing. On June 6th, about 80 people were killed in a massacre in Al-Qubeir (Al-Qubair), half of them were women and children. The observers tried to enter the city a day after it happened but were not allowed to, while Addunia, the official Syrian TV channel, was there, covering the event with its own version of what happened. After these events, a lot of cities were afraid it would be their turn ; Al-Haffeh (Al-Haffah) was shelled and surrounded for about a week before the Free Syrian Army had to leave the city, on June 14th. The monitors entered the city on June 15th ; it was empty, a ghost city. About 25'000 persons had left, afraid it was their turn to be slaughtered. The same day, Hammouriyeh, near Damascus, was shelled, fires could be heard everywhere ; 9 people were stabbed to death. Only 13 corpses have been found, but some were probably taken by Assad forces.

Français : Après le massacre qui a eu lieu à Al-Houla, nous pensions tous que la communauté internationale réagirait fortement, mais non. Le 6 juin, environ 80 personnes ont été tuées lors d'un massacre à Al-Qubeir (Al-Qubair), la moitié d'entre eux étaient des femmes et des enfants. Les observateurs ont essayé d'entrer dans la ville un jour après que c'est arrivé mais n'y ont pas été autorisés, alors qu'Addounia, la chaîne de télévision syrienne officielle, y était, couvrait les événements à sa façon. Après ces événements, plusieurs villes avaient peur que ce soit leur tour ; Al-Haffeh (Al-Haffah) a été bombardée et encerclée pendant environ une semaine avant que l'Armée Syrienne Libre n'ait à quitter la ville, le 14 juin. Les observateurs sont entrés dans la ville le 15 juin ; elle était vide, une ville fantôme. Environ 25'000 personnes étaient parties, effrayée que ce soit leur tour d'être massacrées. Le même jour, Hammouriyeh, une ville près de Damas, était bombardée et on pouvait entendre des fusillades partout ; 9 personnes ont été mortellement poignardées. Seulement 13 corps ont été retrouvés, mais certains ont probablement été pris par les forces d'Assad.

"With this kind of misinformation, it becomes more and more difficult for the international community to put words into action and support the Syrian people's dream to topple Assad." I'm sorry, but I don't agree with this. The FSA is the only entity who is really supporting the uprising, not just talking about it like everbody does ; they need to show people they will succeed, because if they don't who will ?

"Yes, I think we can say that." say the UN Under-Secretary-General, "Clearly what is happening is that the government of Syria lost some large chunks of territory in several cities to the opposition and wants to retake control of these areas." Hmmm. Has he ever known what a civil war is ? Because clearly the government attacking its people and people trying to defend themselves is clearly not a civil war, as I've been saying forever now.
