Baba Amr, Al Rastan, Idleb and Damascus

After recently destroying Baba Amr, the Syrian army has now turned to Al Rastan for about a week now and is sending more and more tanks to Idleb, that apparently is the next city on the list. Damascus is finally seriously rising up, with a lot of demonstrations taking place the 8th and 9th March 2012.

Free Syrian Army

Burhan Ghalioun said the Syrian National Council just received money to support the Free Syrian Army.

Valerie Amos & Kofi Annan

The UN Under-Secretary-General, Valerie Amos, has been sent to Syria as an official envoy, she was able to enter Baba Amr a few days ago. She said it was a disaster, that a lot of buildings had been destroyed and that she was really worried about the people that used to live there. The bombing and shelling had calmed down when she was there but the situation is already getting worse now that she left. Kofi Annan is yet to arrive in Syria but already announced he was against any kind of more important militarization of the conflict.

China & Russia

Russia recently annouced it would not change its mind concerning Syria, but the government sent someone to take part to an Arab League's foreign ministers meeting about Syria. The government also announced today the 9th March 2012 that Assad could not stop the killing because, according to Russian and Syrian governments, about 15'000 men paid by Al-Qaida were now in Syria. Poutine is obviously Assad's spokesman.
China sent a delegation to Syria to witness the events and also asked Assad to stop the violence and to let humanitarian aid in. It added that humanitarian aid should not be a pretext for any military intervention and that Assad and the opposition should now talk without any precondition.

Annan plan Here is Annan's six-point-plan, if you've not seen it : 1. Syrian-led political process to address the aspirations and concerns of the Syrian people 2. UN-supervised cessation of armed violence in all its forms by all parties to protect civilians 3. All parties to ensure provision of humanitarian assistance to all areas affected by the fighting, and implement a daily two-hour humanitarian pause 4. Authorities to intensify the pace and scale of release of arbitrarily detained persons 5. Authorities to ensure freedom of movement throughout the country for journalists 6.
