Homs

RT Khaled elEkhetyar (@freelancitizen)
"While the Arab World woke up to celebrate the religious feast of Eid with their families and relatives, the people of Homs woke up to another day of heavy shelling and shooting of anti-aircraft bullets by artilleries, tanks, and armoured units. Baba Amr continues to endure a complete siege with no food, basic supplies, baby milk, or medicine allowed in ; not even water. Water service, electricity and communications have also been completely cut off. Checkpoints located in different neighbourhoods and suburbs of Homs continue to fire randomly at homes and passersby in order to terrorize residents. The city has officially been declared a Disaster Zone by the Syrian National Council. Nonetheless, demonstrations still took place in most neighbourhoods and suburbs of Homs."

Testimony from Homs - relationship between the people and some soldiers

First thing you've got to know about the syrian soldiers is that most of them are from the people, they were simply doing their military service when the revolution started. They have a difficult choice to make, either they obey to the orders and shoot at the demonstrators, knowing that any of them could be of their family, or they refuse to kill anyone and then most of the time they get killed. When they receive the order to surround a place, they can't go away until someone says so ; the problem appears when, as in Homs, people have no access to food and no one comes to give the soldiers food. In Homs, one of them went to a house to ask for bread ; the family had almost none so they said they were sorry but they couldn't give any. This soldier's superior went back and asked for bread too ; the family didn't know what to do, they finally invited them to come in and cooked some potatoes to share with them.

Hunger strike in Homs' prisons

Prisoners in Homs started a hunger strike to demand the release of all the prisoners in Syria and to call for an international pressure on the syrian regime concerning this very demand of release. They said their possible death would be under the regime's responsability.
