About life in Homs

"Before I come back to Homs, where there's no more internet connection, I'd like to tell you about the young people from the Al-Malaab area in Homs, those who are known for being very careful about how they look and for spending a lot of time in cafés. After 4 days of shelling when we could not go out of our homes, a truck full of wheat flour arrived. The bread baker's driver was from Talbisse and had accepted to risk his life to bring us wheat flour from the warehouses in Hama street. The bread baker had no employees anymore because they didn't have any work to do anymore and were not able to leave their houses. When the truck arrived, these young people started to unload the 550 bags, each containing 50 kilos of wheat flour. They soon became white and then started to make bread pastry with the help of the bread baker. At 3 p.m. the bread was ready, so they managed to distribute it in other areas. The day after that, they started cleaning the area and got rid of the garbage. The day after that, they were able to make a truck full of gas cylinders (about 500) come from the refinery and started to distribute them in other areas, even the surrounded ones. These young people from the most well-to-do area in Homs became workers who carry stuff, who bake bread, who get rid of the garbage and who sell gas cylinders. "
